IST Workshops

IST (Integrative Structural Therapy) Workshops

(With the exception of the Cranial/Structural Core Distortion Releases I workshop and the Cranial/Structural Frontal/Occipital Decompression one day workshop, the three soft tissue weekend classes are currently being taught for AMTA and FSMTA as requested. The Cranial/Structural Core Distortion Workshop and Cranial/Structural Frontal/Occipital Decompression workshop are ongoing through the year as scheduled.)

All workshops are CEU approved by National (Type A) and Florida State

These workshops are the IST (Integrative Structural Therapy) Workshops, not the Three (3) Phase SET Training (formerly the one year SET Training). The protocols are intermediate level soft tissue work that are based on the principles of Structural Energetic Therapy® (SET). They very effectively relieve painful symptoms. These hands-on techniques can be incorporated into your current practice, and will greatly enhance the effectiveness of your work.

OUR TEACHING GOAL: Participants will leave the weekend with an understanding of the techniques presented, and the confidence and ability to effectively apply these techniques and protocols. Don McCann is currently teaching these three soft tissue workshops when requested by the AMTA and FSMTA. He creates a professional informal atmosphere for learning which includes plenty of hands-on application of the techniques as well as individual support. We believe in making learning fun!

Workshops are normally scheduled on weekends.

Workshop Descriptions

IST CRANIAL/STRUCTURAL CORE DISTORTION RELEASES I

(presented by Don McCann, and scheduled periodically throughout the year) (16 CEU’s) Cranial/Structural Core Distortion Information

Cranial/Structural releases (not to be confused with craniosacral) can be the single most important therapeutic technique for pain relief.  90% of client pain, whether it be neck, low back, headaches, carpal tunnel, knee, foot, or hip, can be directly related to the cranial/structural core distortion pattern.  You need the knowledge and the tools to release these cranial/structural patterns in order to release the pelvic imbalances of the core distortion pattern — once this core distortion is released, it will not return unless a very major traumatic injury occurs — even then the full distortion will not be present!  The old soft tissue restrictions can’t reform again to hold the same distortion.

These techniques can be integrated into any soft tissue treatment, and they will initiate dramatic structural changes from the beginning of the first session. Clients often report relief almost immediately, and their confidence in you as a therapist will quickly be established. (To our knowledge, no one else is teaching this expanded Cranial/Structural technique.)

You will learn:

  • cranial anatomy
  • cranial rhythms
  • core distortion pattern
  • structural evaluation
  • body reading
  • cranial/structural relationships
  • soft tissue cranial releases
  • muscle testing and kinesiology
  • correction of structural distortions

IST CRANIAL/STRUCTURAL FRONTAL/OCCIPITAL DECOMPRESSION

(presented by Don McCann and scheduled periodically throughout the year) (8 CEU’s) (developed by Don McCann) has been proven to produce observable and measurable positive results in behavior, noticeable improvements in motor skills, coordination, strength, the ability to concentrate, and the ability to learn and apply new physical tasks. When using these techniques with children who have autism or learning disabilities, it is possible to give them a chance to experience a more normal and productive life. It is also a very powerful detoxifier for the brain and body, reduces scar tissue from concussions that can cause memory problems and other dysfunctions, can result in significant improvement for early onset Alzheimer’s — many are often able to move back into normal life activities — and so much more.

Cranial/Structural Frontal/Occipital Decompression incorporates:

  • Knowledge of cranial anatomy
  • Knowledge of cranial rhythms
  • Soft tissue cranial releases
  • Muscle testing and Kinesiology
  • Quick-release methodology
  • Sagittal suture release
  • Normalizing and balancing temporal bone rhythm

This technique very effectively treats and manages: autism, learning disabilities, swelling in the cranium, detoxing the brain and body, post-surgery detoxing, scar tissue from concussions, focusing and eye problems, prevention of Alzheimer’s, sinus and inner ear swelling, concentration challenges, right/left brain integration, emotional shock and post-traumatic stress disorders, lymphatic balancing, and more.

IST RELIEF FROM BACK PAIN (14 CEU’s)  (Currently only being taught for AMTA and FSMTA as requested) The pelvis supports the structure of the body.  Releasing old structural patterns in this area will relieve low back and leg pain, as well as facilitate rehabilitation from painful conditions throughout the body and provide support for balanced postural alignment.

You will learn:

  • anatomy
  • methods of determining structural pain patterns
  • to recognize postural distortions
  • techniques to address distortions
  • protocols for pelvic balancing
  • myofascial spreading and unwinding techniques
  • specific trigger point and individual fiber releases
  • scheduling frequency for optimum healing

Conditions relieved with this protocol include sciatica, bulging and herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, fibromyalgia, arthritis, limited range of motion in hips, knees and back, sprains/strains and other injuries to the back and legs.  This protocol can be used in its entirety, or be integrated into other massage routines.

IST RELIEF FROM HEAD, NECK, SHOULDER PAIN, including the Quick Release Technique  (14 CEU’s)  (Currently only being taught for AMTA and FSMTA as requested) Headaches and neck, shoulder, and upper back pain are among the most common complaints due to high stress, car accidents, an abundance of computer operators, and structural imbalances.

You will learn:

  • anatomy
  • methods of determining structural pain patterns
  • to recognize postural distortions
  • techniques to address distortions
  • a Quick Release Technique
  • myofascial spreading and unwinding techniques
  • specific trigger point and individual fiber releases
  • scheduling frequency for optimum healing

Conditions relieved with this protocol include headaches, flexion/extension injuries, bulging and herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, fibromyalgia, arthritis, limited range of motion in the neck and shoulder, torticolis, carpal tunnel symptoms, vertebral artery compression syndrome, and sprain/strain injuries.  This protocol can be used in its entirety, or be integrated into other massage routines.

The Quick Release Technique will relieve headaches, neck, and shoulder pain, quickly relaxes uptight clients, and prepares clients for deeper work.  Protocol takes 10-15 minutes to apply — great practice builder! (This Quick Release technique is also taught as a mini-workshop as a therapy on its own).

IST RELIEF FROM CARPAL TUNNEL and OTHER NERVE ENTRAPMENTS  (14 CEU’s) (Currently only being taught for AMTA and FSMTA as requested) The primary cause of carpal tunnel and nerve entrapment of the arms is structural imbalance resulting in specific strain patterns, a factor that is often overlooked and not addressed in the treatment of these conditions.

You will learn:

  • anatomy
  • postural distortions that contribute to this problem
  • techniques to release these distortions
  • to recognize symptoms related to nerve entrapment
  • to treat nerve pathways for nerve entrapment
  • protocols for effective treatment
  • myofascial spreading and unwinding techniques
  • specific trigger point and individual fiber releases
  • scheduling frequency for optimum healing

Conditions relieved with this protocol include numbness in hands/fingers, weakness in arms/hands/fingers, swelling in hands/forearms, inflammation around joints in elbow/wrist/hands/fingers, adhesion build-up in arm, progressive immobility in fingers/hands/wrist/elbows, shoulder/arm/wrist/hand/finger pain, tennis elbow, trigger finger, tendonitis, and more. This protocol can be used in its entirety, or be integrated into other massage routines.
